Sarah Luisa Wurmer stands for a contemporary, sonically open approach to the zither. She combines virtuosic early music with a curiosity for contemporary sound, exploring interdisciplinary formats and international influences. As the first zither player to appear in the world's great concert halls, including Wigmore Hall, she is charting a unique path in the classical music scene and bringing the zither to an international audience. Her mission goes beyond performing: she wants to inspire people to take new and unusual paths and to celebrate diversity.

As a soloist on the treble, alto and bass zither, she draws on her diverse instrumentarium to find the ideal timbre for every programme. Her artistic work is shaped by close collaboration with composers as well as her own arrangements, through which she makes a significant contribution to expanding a new zither repertoire.

Sarah Luisa Wurmer has performed at the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Thuringian Bach Weeks, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and the Detect Classic Festival. Since autumn 2024 she has been a regular guest with the transcultural Bridges Chamber Orchestra. In the 2025/26 season she performed at the Elbphilharmonie, the Alte Oper Frankfurt and the Heidelberger Frühling, among others, and gave her debut as soloist with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under the direction of Steven Sloane.

Born in 2002, she is currently studying at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts (HMTM) in the class of Prof. Georg Glasl and Tajda Krajnc, complemented by periods at the Mongolian State Conservatory in Ulaanbaatar and at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Master's in "Contemporary Arts Practice / Improviser*Composer Performance"). Her mentors include Hanni Liang (concert design) and Angela Metzger (organ).

She is supported by scholarships from the Max Weber Programme of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and from YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now e.V. Her artistic work has received numerous awards, including the "Ernst Volkmann Prize" 2024 at the 10th International Zither Competition and the Munich City Music Scholarship 2024, as well as the Fanny Mendelssohn Förderpreis 2025. That same year, her debut album intimacy was released on the ES-DUR label, impressively documenting her search for new sonic spaces on the zither.
